This week, the focus for our Picture News assembly has been 'togetherness', inspired by the Princess of Wales' annual carol service.

Our question is 'How important is it to feel a sense of togetherness?'

Consultation information regarding 2-year-old nursery-aged children

Dear Families,

We are seeking your views on our proposal to expand the age range of Springfield Academy to include nursery-aged pupils aged 2 years old. To accommodate such, a maximum of 10 places will be added to the school. Expanding our age range will help us support families earlier, strengthen transition into Reception, and provide additional childcare options within our community.

For many families, early years' childcare is more than a place to leave their child, it is a lifeline of reassurance, routine, and trust. We want Springfield Academy to be a place where children can begin building those foundations from their earliest years, surrounded by staff who understand their needs, their personalities, and their potential long before they reach Reception.

By welcoming children earlier, we can work in partnership with parents from the very start in strengthening routines, supporting speech and language, nurturing confidence and independence, and ensuring no child is left waiting for help.

You are invited to share your feedback for our proposal by completing our short consultation survey here:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/MFYSFFY

Please complete the survey by no later than the 10th of December 2025 (17:00). Your views are important to us and will help shape our final submission to the Department for Education for the School-Based Nursery Fund, which will be used to offer an expanded age range, and serve more children through our early years provision.

Warm regards,

Jackie Hill

                   Wet Breaks

Dear Families,
As we approach the winter months, we often experience wet weather that limits outdoor activities during break times. To provide students with an enjoyable alternative, we would like to occasionally show PG-rated films or TV programmes during wet break and lunch times.
Examples of films we may show include:
• Paddington
• Frozen
• Inside Out
• Matilda
• Finding Nemo
• Toy Story
• Moana
• The Incredibles
• Shrek
Please confirm if you give permission for your child to watch PG-rated films or TV programmes in school by clicking the link and completing the form here: https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=SOsLaVHOjku4-YLm1ZLUz3xwf2vTQ1BOn6Lgi4rpbv1UQlI0QUlTWjM5VjUwM0Y3RkdBRUxWUzlHRS4u

If you have any concerns or would prefer your child not to participate, please let us know on the form.
Thank you for your support in helping us create a positive environment during wet breaks.

Dear Parents/Carers,

We are excited to share that we are looking to expand our nursery provision to offer full-time places (8:50am – 3:25pm, term time only) for families eligible for the 30 hours of government-funded childcare.

If you would be interested in a 30-hour nursery placement, please check your eligibility using the link below:

👉 Check your eligibility for 30 hours funding: https://www.beststartinlife.gov.uk/childcare-early-years-education/15-and-30-hours-support/working-families/eligibility

Once you have confirmed your eligibility, please let us know whether you would be interested in taking up a 30-hour place.

You may have a younger child who doesn't currently attend our setting, and you would like to move them to our school nursery using your 30-hours. You can express your interest at the school office to Mrs Andrew and be added to our school waiting list.

Kind regards,

                                                                                    FIRST AID SLIPS

We have a new improved system so that when a bump etc is recorded it will then automatically send an email with the information, to the parent direct. Please watch out for any of these emails coming your way. If you have any concerns about the information you receive please feel free to call. If the accident is a serious one or we need you to come and see your child, we would of course, as normal, call you immediately. Mrs Hill

Free School Meals

Free School Meal (FSM) Vouchers

Dear Families,

We hope this message finds you well.

We’re writing to share an important update regarding the Free School Meal voucher scheme at Springfield Academy. Due to a reduction in funding from the Household Support Fund (HSF) for the 2025/26 financial year, we regret to inform you that we will no longer be able to provide Free School Meal vouchers during school holiday periods.

We understand that this change may cause concern and could have a significant impact on many families, especially during times when children are not in school and access to meals may be more limited. Please know that this decision was not made lightly. We deeply recognise the challenges this may present and remain committed to supporting our families in every way we can.

We encourage you to explore support available through local community organisations and food assistance services. You may find helpful resources and information on the Nottingham City Council website:

👉 Household Support Vouchers – Nottingham City Council

If you have any questions, concerns, or need help accessing support, please don’t hesitate to contact the school office. We’re here to help and will do our best to assist you during this transition.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Warm regards,

Mrs J Hill

📚🤩 Exciting book news!! 📚🤩

Next week in school, one of our rooms will be turned into a bookshop! We have partnered with ‘The Children’s Book Project’ who have delivered boxes and boxes of beautiful books to school which are as good as new.

Your child will be given one of these bookmarks in school next week. They will have the opportunity to browse a selection of books in our school bookshop and they will then swap the token at the bottom of their bookmark for 2 books of their choice. The books they choose will be theirs to take home to keep forever and they are completely free!!

📚 If your child is in Year 3, 4, 5 or 6, they will visit the bookshop on Tuesday 6th May.

📚 If your child is in Nursery, Reception, Year 1 or Year 2, they will visit the bookshop on Wednesday 7th May.

📚🤩 We cannot wait to share the brilliant books we have had delivered with the children and create a buzz around reading! 📚🤩
